Handmade book cover design. A tale of two worlds colliding and intertwining together: The scene is set in both Jamaica and Britain during and after World War II.
Hope and dreams of life in the ‘Mother’ Country are not all it seems after Britain is quite literally turned upside down after the war..but love conquers all, or does it?
Handmade product details:
The physical piece was made from a range of different materials including foam board, acrylic paints, cotton wool and modelling foam. The shapes that make up the island consist of the land shape of England & Scotland but turned upside down to represent the damage done to the country after the war. The right hand side is the land shape of Jamaica turned on its side.
I combined the two shapes to make a sort of distorted love heart with a stream down the middle, representing love being torn apart but the river being what connects them together.
The darker and lighter blues mixed together not only represent water and the journeys travelled by Caribbeans to the UK but also the intertwining and intermingling of two different cultures, which is what the story was essentially all about.
